Forgive, Release, Let Go

forgive them, love them, let them go

Forgiveness doesn't always look like two people finding their way back to each other.

Sometimes it looks like one person finding peace and continuing forward.

There are things we can forgive without forgetting what they taught us.

Know What Burns

You don't have to hate the fire. You don't have to be angry that it's hot. You don't have to spend your life blaming it for burning you.

But you probably shouldn't keep reaching your hand into it.

There is freedom in understanding that. People have stories we cannot see. They carry wounds, learned behaviors, fears, and cycles that may explain much of what they do.

We can recognize those things. We can have grace for them. We can even love them.

But love doesn't require unlimited access to our lives. Understanding why someone hurts people doesn't mean continuing to offer yourself as somewhere for that hurt to land.

Forgiveness Can Have Boundaries

Forgiveness says, I release what happened. A boundary says, I remember what I learned.

Those two things can exist together.

You can stop carrying resentment while still protecting the life you've built. You can hope someone becomes healthier without making their healing your responsibility. You can believe people are capable of change while recognizing that some people haven't changed yet.

And until they do, distance may be the kindest place for both of you.

Let Them Go With Love

Not everyone needs to remain part of your story. Some people may only be here long enough to teach you what you will carry forward, and what you will refuse to carry any further.

So forgive them. Not because what happened didn't matter, but because it doesn't deserve to own more of your life.

Wish them peace. Wish them growth. Wish them a beautiful life if you can. Then let them have it somewhere beyond yours.

Forgive them enough that you're no longer carrying them. Love them enough to hope they find their way. And love yourself enough to recognize when their path cannot continue alongside yours.

You don't have to leave the door cracked to prove there's no hatred behind it. Sometimes you close it because you've finally made peace with what's on the other side.
