Life Is Everything

There are a million things happening inside you right now. Your heart is beating. Your lungs are breathing. Your eyes are turning light into something you can understand. Your mind is reading these words, connecting them to things you've learned over an entire lifetime.
And you're probably not consciously doing any of it. Life just keeps happening.
Which is kind of incredible when you actually stop to think about it.
Everything Becoming Everything
Nothing got here alone. The food we eat came from somewhere. The air we breathe is exchanged with a living world around us. The ground beneath our feet has been becoming what it is for longer than we can imagine.
Things grow. Things fall apart. Things become something new. Everything is constantly responding to everything else. And maybe that's what life really is. Not billions of separate things existing beside each other, but everything continuously becoming part of everything else.
Just Look Around
A seed somehow knows to reach upward. Your body knows how to heal a cut.
Birds cross continents. Trees turn sunlight into growth. Rivers carve through stone. Entire worlds of life exist in a handful of soil.
People fall in love, create things that never existed before, tell stories, raise children, laugh until they can't breathe, and spend entire lifetimes trying to understand what any of this means.
Billions of lives. Countless species. Oceans, forests, deserts, mountains, storms, rivers and all the tiny things happening between them. Everything moving. Everything reacting. Everything affecting something else.
Somehow we call all of this normal. And Earth itself is only one part of the picture.
Everything we've ever known; the people we've loved, every tree we've touched, every ocean we've crossed, every life that has ever been lived here, is happening on one little planet in something so enormous we can barely comprehend it.
The more you look, the bigger it gets. And somehow, here we are.
What We Add
Maybe being such a small part of something so enormous doesn't make us insignificant. Maybe it makes our little part even more remarkable.
Because for however long we're here, we participate. We affect the people around us. We change the spaces we move through. We create, help, hurt, repair, teach, learn, love and leave pieces of ourselves behind.
A kind word becomes part of someone's day. Something we teach becomes something another person carries forward. Love changes people. Patience changes moments. What we create can exist somewhere we've never been, in the hands of someone we'll never meet.
We don't always get to see what happens next. But if everything touches everything, then what we add matters too.
So maybe we don't need to understand the whole thing. Maybe we just need to notice how incredible it is that we're here at all. And while we're here, contribute something worth carrying forward.
Life is everything. Everything touches everything. And for a little while, we get to touch it too.
