DIY Toddler-Friendly Detangler Spray: Our Morning Game Changer

A little bottle, a lot of magic. ✨
A little bottle, a lot of magic. ✨

If you’ve ever tried brushing two toddlers’ hair in the morning, you know it can feel like a full-contact sport. In our house, both kids seem to wake up with a nest of tangles worthy of a bird sanctuary.

For a while, I thought a little water misting would do the trick but it didn’t. The comb still snagged, they squirmed, and we all started our day a little more stressed than we needed to be.

Then, we decided to make our own homemade detangler spray, and when I tell you it changed everything… I mean it! Now their hair glides through the brush like silk, no more tears or tugging. The best part? It’s toddler-approved, smells amazing, and I know exactly what’s in it.

The Recipe:

Why These Ingredients Work

  • Lavender oil – Calming scent and soothing for the scalp.

  • Tea tree oil – Helps keep the scalp healthy.

  • Rosemary oil – May promote hair growth.

  • Grape seed oil – Lightweight, so it won’t make hair greasy.

  • Witch hazel (alcohol-free) – Helps mix everything evenly and acts as a gentle preservative.

Extra Tips

  • Customize it – Swap out oils to suit your preferences.

  • Store wisely – Keep it in a cool, dark place to preserve the essential oils.

  • Test first – Try a small section of hair before full use to ensure no sensitivity.

“A few sprays, a few combs, and we’ve gone from chaos to calm.”

Our Morning Now

No more battles, no more “Ouch!” moments. When we hit tangles now, it’s not an uphill battle just a few gentle combs through and they’re gone. No harsh tugging, no tears, just smooth, silky hair in minutes.

Before: Picture this two toddlers in the morning, hair resembling tiny bird nests, me armed with just a spray bottle of water and a lot of hope. Every stroke of the comb felt like scaling a mountain of knots, complete with squirming, protesting, and the occasional “Ouch!”

After: Now? A quick spritz of our homemade detangler and those same tangles glide apart. When we hit a knot, it’s no longer a struggle just a few easy strokes and it’s smooth sailing. No tears, no tug-of-war, just silky hair and smiles all around.
